Epiphany Sunday

The Ultimate Light: Wisdom for the Nations

Finishing our advent journey this Sunday, we have longed for, anticipated, and seen God's promised light in the person of Jesus enter into our darkness. We have seen the light God brought to the creation of the world; we have seen Jesus as the incarnate Word present in creation; we have seen God's people guided by the light of God's presence with them; we have seen the prophets promising of the greatest light to save us from our darkness; and we have seen the light of the world entering in as the person of Christ being born as a baby. On this Epiphany Sunday, we continue on our journey, examining how the light of the world, Jesus Christ, is the wisdom and power the nations have been searching for. Wisemen from the east came to Jerusalem in search of Jesus, and King Herod was deterred because of a threat to his political power by the Messiah. And yet, this gospel's text shows us the wisemen's realization, response, and renown of the ultimate light. The wisemen's experience has something for us today. It speaks to our minds and hearts wisdom for all the nations to see the world clearly as it is.

As we are sent out from worship this Sunday, we will also get the opportunity to meet how God is moving today as the light in the darkness with our City Missions partners, who are joining us to share how we can continue to partner with them. Plan to stick around after the service to learn more.

Invite friends and family to worship in-person with us on Sunday at 8:00 (Chapel), 9:30 or 11:00 a.m. or online at pcpc.org/live/, the PCPC App with an iOS or Android device, Facebook, or YouTube.

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him.”
